Mental illness Meets 200kms!
Raising Awareness One Ride at a Time!
Welcome to Freddy’s journey- ‘mental illness meets 200kms!'
As someone who has battled mental illness for now over 26 years, and as someone who has received much help at the hands of the Canadian Mental Health Association, I wanted to figure out a way to combine 3 things that are very important to me!
1. My desire to try and help raise funds and awareness for what CMHA does and their important role in both mental health and mental illness
2. Through a series of 'on the ride' videos, photos, audio clips, and ride summaries, both to encourage and motivate others to keep up their fight in finding joy while dealing with mental illness
3. To improve my own mental health along the way, while attempting to paint an accurate picture of what I go through during these rides, as well as, in between.

Who We Are
Our Way of Giving Back!
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my page! My name is Freddy, the cyclist behind this charitable fundraiser, and along with my partners Michelle Phillips, and Ulises Gonzalez, CMHA-Elgin/Middlesex mental health workers, we have decided to take on this summer-long fundraiser in hopes of raising awareness for mental health and illness, as well as offer encouragement to ones struggling with their mental health, and ultimately to raise funds for the excellent work CMHA-Elgin/Middlesex does for the communities they serve!
What Our Goal Is!
Swallowing Up Mental Illness Stigma One Km at a Time!
The plan is to cycle during the summer in the country, North of London, Ontario, beginning with a 20km ride in May, and through added distance increments of between 5-10kms, by the end of September, eventually cycle in one day - 200kms!
This will be a very difficult challenge, not just because of the large distances involved, but also because I still very much struggle with serious mental illnesses, and on any given day, depression, fatigue, and or anxiety, could provide significant obstacles! My hope is not to show people where they could be in their life, I myself am not content with where I am in my own life, but to really help encourage them to keep giving their best to improve the quality of their lives.
I welcome you to stay tuned to my fundraising challenge and subsequent updates, as well as inform others about what we are doing, and please support this cause if you would like to, by making a donation to 'CMHA-Elgin/Middlesex! Mental Illness Meets 200kms!'-Raising Awareness One Ride at a Time and giving encouragement and hope for people struggling with mental illness and anyone else facing challenging obstacles!

Hope I Can Motivate You to Fight Hard!
A big part of what these rides are about is fighting through mental illness to the best of our abilities. Even my very first ride I had to battle depression and not wanting to do anything!

“A regular, broken man, trying to put the pieces back together with the help of 2 wheels and a community of supporters!”
